4 Course Renaissance Cittern Maple by Muzikkon
4-Course Renaissance Cittern is based on historical drawings drawings inspired by the French. The Renaissance cittern was a popular instrument during the Renaissance period, often played alongside the lute and guitar, and known for its bright, plucked tone. This instrument typically features four double or triple courses and a relatively small, compact design that made it easy to play and transport. It was commonly tuned to a variety of tunings, such as C-G-D-A or G-D-A-E, and was used in a variety of musical settings from the court to more informal occasions.
The Renaissance cittern was played with a plectrum, and while it was similar in appearance to other plucked string instruments, it produced a distinct, sharper sound that complemented both solo and ensemble music. The instrument itself features a flat back, often made of hardwood, and a soundboard made from softwood like spruce.
